The CellarThe Cellar by A.J. Whitten
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Meredith knows that something is off with her sister's new boyfriend, but she's not sure. A car accident that killed her father, and left her sister with a permanent scar on her face also gave Meredith a degenerative eye condition. It's strange that bugs, worms and maggots only seem to appear when her sister's new boyfriend is nearby, but everyone seems so taken with him. All the girls at school want to date him, and her sister, Heather is with him all the time. Still, the guy is creepy, and so is his mother. Also, Meredith swears she's seen people or things in the cellar next door, and she's determined to find out what is going on before it's too late.

Ah, romance, confusion and friendship between the living and the undead with a Disturbia style, "don't trust your weird neighbors thrown in." The Cellar sounded promising. Unfortunately, it reads more like a collaboration between Carrie Ryan and James Howe with both of them having a terrible writing day. For the first half of the book, very little even happens, and yet, for the lack of action, the characters and their relationships seem very shallow. Also, Adrien, the undead boyfriend is supposed to be somewhat sympathetic in the end? Uh, not working so much; not for me. Do yourself a favor and go to Eat Slay Love or Zombies Vs. Unicorns for your zombie fix.
