And the activity is: name your favorite dads in literature. Oh boy. It's hard to think of good dads, but easy to think of dads I love to hate. How about Allie Fox from Mosquito Coast or Bull Meecham from The Great Santini? On the slightly more affable side, we have Todd aka "the prom king" from Tom Perrota's Little Children and Calvin Jarrett from Ordinary People? In the fiction world, the bar for fathering is set pretty low. I'm happy to say I drew the long straw and have a fabulous dad. Happy Father's Day to all you brave guys who conquer monsters under the bed and let us eat ice cream after midnight. You're the best!
