Review: The Night Circus
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I received The Night Circus through the Early Reviewers program on LibraryThing.
Admittedly, it's one of those books that I was nervous about starting because it looked like the publisher already decided it was going to be a hit and I could smell waves of over-hype wafting from the pages. Also, it got off to a kind of slow start, but I was hooked by page 50.
Erin Morganstern weaves several plot threads together and they all center on the travels of Le Circque du Reves, a circus that runs on magic. Morganstern focuses on a time when two young illusionists, Celia Bowen and Marco, are acting as pawns in a competition between their instructors. Eventually, they realize that their love for each other is what inspires their spells and illusions, but they must decide between the circus and each other.
While I have a feeling The Night Circus will be praised today and forgotten within a year or two it's definitely a fun read.
