Review: The Abused Werewolf Rescue Group
The Abused Werewolf Rescue Group by Catherine Jinks
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
While Catherine Jinks has a good sense of humor, and some passages of The Abused Werewolf Rescue Group are fun to read, this quirky paranormal adventure misses the mark.
For starters, Toby V. seems like more of a caricature of a 13 year old boy, and, typically I try not to judge books by their covers, but seriously, people, who is the dude on the cover supposed to be? Toby is supposed to be scrawny and kind of dorky looking. He also apparently goes around wearing sweatpants under his jeans to conceal his scrawniness. (Does anyone actually do that?) His two close friends are so hard to distinguish from each other that I can't even remember their names now and I just finished reading the book.
There's a fair amount of action in The Abused Werewolf Rescue Group but most of it is just stupid pranks Toby and his friends pull. Meh. It seems like Toby and his friends are too dopey and gross for most girls looking for supernatural chills and spills to identify with them, and I don't think anything cool enough happens for guys to get excited about this book.
I was kind of hoping for a supernatural version of Tales From the Madman Underground with howling at the moon. That would have been awesome!
