Review: Eat Slay Love by Jesse Petersen---All the shambling, none of the garbage
Eat Slay Love by Jesse Petersen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I had my doubts about Eat Slay Love. For starters, even though I am a zombie enthusiast, zombies tend to work better in movies than books. However, I was pleasantly surprised by Jesse Petersen's contribution to popular zombie fiction.
Our heroes, Dave and Sarah, set out to head for the Midwest Wall near Normal, IL. The Wall is supposed to be the dividing line between the population that has been wiped-out by the zombie apocalypse and the survivors. Normal, IL also happens to be where Sarah's mother lives, or at least lived, last she heard from her. As Dave and Sarah wind their way through back roads, they meet-up with Nicole, a reporter who still seems to believe Pulitzer Prizes are awarded in a post-zombie-apocalypse world, and a coked-up has-been rock star. On their journey, they learn that there may be more to the zombie apocalypse than they thought. Do I smell government conspiracy over the stench of rotting corpses? Perhaps, but you'll have to read the book to know for sure, won't you?
I highly recommend packing this gem in your beach bag or in your carry on. Petersen's dark humor and loving dedication to zombie lore will be sure to take your mind off whatever your mind is on. Remember: if the zombie apocalypse isn't upon you, things can't be that bad.
