I'm surprisingly psyched about National Poetry Month. For one thing, I have been looking for a poem as part of the research for my current rewrite and I'm having trouble finding a good one. (Don't get me wrong--I've found a lot of good poems, just not one appropriate for my situation.)

Some people find poetry whiney and annoying, but I feel like it nourishes my creative soul. I need to remember to turn to Shel Silverstein, Edward Hirsch or Emily Dickinson whenever I feel blocked.

I'm also about to embark on a novel in verse journey via Love That Dog by Sharon Creech in which a teacher converts a poetry-hating student into a poetry-loving and writing one.
