Review: Please Ignore Vera Dietz
Please Ignore Vera Dietz by A.S. King
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Vera Dietz is haunted by her best friend, Charlie, as she tries to cope with his recent death and years of built-up stress with her father who would rather analyze emotions than feel them. The novel is mainly narrated by Vera with occasional interruptions from The Pagoda, a broken down building near her house, her father, and Charlie (as in after-life Charlie). Overall, this was an interesting story and some of the writing and dialogue is amazing. The viewpoint changes seemed unnecessarily distracting though. I think a lot of the information and story brought out through the Pagoda, Charlie, and Vera's father could have been conveyed in ways that didn't take me out of the story.
