It's only Tuesday and I've already learned new things

Blizzard
(Not from this blizzard)

I don't know about you, but by the end of every week, I feel like a new person. It's not all good, but it's there, you know? Okay, so here's what I've learned so far:

  1. People on the East Coast talk a good game, but throw a little snow on them in October, and they go bananas. Here in urbane Cranford, NJ (yes, that "e" is intentional---look it up, people!) the local power company, PSE&G said that the pre-Halloween blizzard damaged the town's infrastructure more than Hurricane Irene. Intense, no?
  2. The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze at Van Cortland Manor in Croton-on-Hudson has "rain or shine" tickets, but that doesn't apply to snow.
  3. Even though the entire Cranford School District shut down due to storm damage, Union County College still expected its employees to schlepp to work even if they had kids stuck at home or couldn't take a hot shower that morning. Nice, huh? (Before you feel too sorry for me, our home is in the opposite of the Bermuda Triangle of Cranford--nothing happens. That's why I keep sacrificing chickens; just kidding.)
  4. Service with a sense of urgency seems to apply only to people who need to provide it on a low salary. Try to get an arborist out to your place after a blizzard and you'll see what I mean. I went into the wrong business.
  5. It's hard to generate great story ideas when I'm in NaNoWriMo writing mode, but very easy to come up with things to say while I'm bitching on my blog. . . Oh, yeah, writing. Must go do that. Catch ya later!
